Use NI-cDAQ 9174 through a wireless network

I am participating in a research group and we are building robots and using NI-cDAQ 9174 to interface with them.  We can easily use the USB connection to the computer to program the robots, however we want to go through a wireless network instead.  We've installed a D-link DIR-601-A1 wireless router onto the robot and have a USB to ethernet converter that we want to go from the cDAQ to the router.  Our desktop connects to the Router, NI-MAX sees the network, however NI-MAX does not see any devices connected to it, even though we have the cDAQ going into the router.  I notice the "ready" indicator is not acitivated on the cDAQ when plugged into the router, unlike when its plugged directly into the desktop computer.
