DAQmx default counter pins

$

I am hoping to use a PCIe-6363 (not yet purchased) to generate a basic continuous pulse train on counter 0. Its default output pin is PFI12, and has other associated pins (SRC, GATE, AUX on PFI8-10 etc.). I am struggling to find an indication of whether these other pins are still available for standard digital I/O, or whether they are off-limits during pulse train generation: I am not physically (externally) using them for the pulse generation.

In general I am keen to take advice on whether counter-based pulse train generation is overkill in my case. I do not have a demanding pulse train requirement - typically 20kHz, 50% duty cycle - but the documentation steers me towards continuous pulse train rather than anything else.

my-DAQ solution

Hello everyone. I have an issue using my-DAQ system. Right now I am working on some testing device. I have 7 RTD's and 2 Flow controller and 2 flow meters and 2 CO2 sensors. I have used 1 NI USB 6009 for 4 RTDs. Now I have no more space left to attach other sensors. So do I have to use 2 more NI 6009 or what should I do to acquire all the sensors data using one my-DAQ device. What are your suggestions as I have not much experience of electronics and NI data acquisition systems.

If I use 2 more DAQ cards then is there any way to connect all the DAQ cards at one computer port?

Or is there any NI device which I should purchase which has more analog inputs and outputs?

I shall be very thankful for your kind advice.

PCIe-6323 compatible server

The NI PCIe-6323 is not compatible with a Dell PowerEdge R240 Server. When the PCIe-6323 card is fitted it prevents the server from booting up. Dell's documentation states that the server is Gen3 PCI compliant so it should be backwards compatible with the PCIe-6323 card.

The server's operating system was updated to the latest available but this didn't solve the issue.

Dell have stated that they can't confirm if the PCIe-6323 should work as they haven't tested it themselves.

Numerous different boot configurations have been tried with no success; the server only boots if the PCIe-6323 card is not fitted or if the PCI slot is disabled.

Does anyone know of a recent Dell or HP branded server that is compatible with a NI PCIe-6323 card?

Why Dell or HP? Because those are 2 major brands recommened by NI.

We do know that the PCIe-6323 card is compatible with an older server model, the HP Proliant 360 G4.

using DAQ to take external triggers and sync with SMU for measurement

I plan to use a PXI-6230 and PXIe-4141 for a triggered measurement.

the plan is to use the DAQ to take the external TTL trigger, route it to backplane. PXI_Trig0-7, and use it to trigger SMU for measurements.

any one have any idea how to do this? I'm using C# for development.

thanks

Transfer data from Multifunction IO board to FPGA

Hello, I am a newbie here and have a technical question.

In our system we currently use a PXIe-7841R FPGA board with 96 digital IOs and 8 analog inputs and outputs. Unfortunately the board is discontinued and we are looking for an alternative. The newer reconfigurable multifunctional IOs only have a maximum of 48 digital IOs which is too few.

One approach for a new solution would be to use the FPGA board PXIe-7821 with 128 digital IOs and to add a PXIe-6363 which provides the analog inputs.

However, the sampled analog values are processed in our FPGA logic and also the output values are generated here. The host has nothing to do with all this.

My question now is how to transfer the data between PXIe-6363 and PXIe-7821. Is it possible that the PXIe-6363 writes values to the host memory via DMA values and the PXIe-7821 reads them back without loading the host CPU with them? In the documentation I have seen so far only the case that data is moved back and forth between IO board and host.

And what would be a realistic latency for such a process? We would need a latency <2us. But is that realistic for a buffered operation?

Thanks for any help!

screen resolution changes to 640x480 when NI MAX is open

is there some setting in Measurement Automation Explorer that resets the Windows screen resolution? While attempting to fix some problems that occurred as a result of updating to the latest version I inadvertently  created this misbehavior! Now whenever I start MAX the screen resolution suddenly switches to 640x480 and remains there until I shutdown MAX. I tried upgrading MAX to the latest release but the screen res problem still exists! Makes it hard to operate when its in the lowest resolution setting. Any suggestions?

NI USB-6211 no AO generation

Dear all,

I'm currently stuck with my NI USB-6211. I'm trying to generate a voltage waveform via an AO channel. I also want to record some signal (AI) and generate some pulse train using a counter.

I'm coding a C++/Qt software using the DAQmx ansi C library.

The Code I'm using worked, I used it extensivly on a different project (different computer). And It worked at the beginning when I installed it on the current. Then after trying to generate a pulse train it stop working  (without any error send by the card) so I tested the card in NI max and even there nothing was working (both AO and CTR).

I noticed that when I try to start a task I observe a spike on the oscilloscope but that's all.

I tried to plug/unplug the card but without success.

Thanks in advance for yout help

CAN-Breakout-Box Termination

$

Hello,

With the CAN breakout box from NI there are two adjustable resistors (120 and 60 ohm), if you now measure between CAN_H and CAN_L you have the set resistors. For termination you have to set a 120 ohm resistor between high and low at the "start" and "end" of the bus, so you would have to measure 60 ohm (two parallel 120 ohm resistors). So you have to set 60 Ohm for the normal CAN bus of the breakout box, do I see that right? For what is then the 120Ohm resistor meant that are then 240Ohm resistors at each end?

Data logging speed with USB-6212

Hello,

I am setting up a USB-6212 for a teststand we are creating.

The teststand should be able to:

- measure analog inputs on 3 channels

- measure the frequency of a PWM signal

- generate an analog output between 0 and 10 volts

- record the data we are logging.

The VI that we have created so far works fine when running up to 500 Hz. At higher speeds, it has trouble keeping up. We can see this from the recorded data where the time is also logged.

I am relatively new to Labview - can anyone tell me what can be done to make this program run faster? We need a speed around 2 kHz.  The program is attached

Which NI device to buy for Pressure Transducers Swagelok

$

Hello,

We are researchers in France. Could you please help us to choose the right NI equipment?

What I have?

I have a Swagelok Pressure Transducers (S model).

  • Voltage output signal (3 wire): 0 to 10V
  • Need a supply: Vdc = 14 to 30V
  • Min. Load: RL > 10 kOhm

Capture.JPGc2.JPG

My question is:

  • If we have an external Power Supply of 24V, then what type of NI equipment to buy to collect the Voltage output signal from the Pressure Transducer on the PC. We prefer to collect the data by using the USB câble on the PC.
  • I know that some NI equipment can also have the Power Supply at the same time. So if we don't have an external Power Supply, then what type of NI equipment to buy? (Power Supply, Acquisition, USB at the same time, all in one).

Thank you very much.

USB-6008 Plug-in replacement

Hello all.

We use the USB-6008 in a machine. Now we need to replace this defective device.

The question is: Is there a channel, where we can buy these modules again, they are no more listet at NI. Or is there a plug-in replacement-module that needs no software-change?

Unfortunately there is no possibility at NI Homepage to ask this question, in my opinion a very bad behaviour, but maybe the community can help me?

Thanks for any reply

PXI-6509 - Using Test Panels to troubleshoot failed cards

$

Hello,

So we have been having issues with multiple 6509 cards failing. The failures are occurring on the DIO transceivers on the A Side (5V). We diagnose this by using a multimeter to check the pins on the transceiver to chip ground. The failed chips have IO pins shorted to ground.

These failed cards will pass self test in NI MAX.

Can I set up test panels to check the functionality of the transceivers rather than swapping cards or removing them to manually check?

Thanks,

Bryan

Digital filtering on NI 9375 DIs

$

Hello,

I need to filter the digital input signals on a NI 9375 card placed in a 9189 cDAQ chassis.

When using the DAQmx channel property node in LabVIEW to enable digital filtering for a line, I get an error message.

I found some documentation saying, that only parallel DIO modules can perform the filtering, the 9375 seems to be a serial one.

So does that mean, that I can't use digital filtering on the 9375 modules? Or am I just missing something during configuration?

Thanks,

Sven

sequential measurement with swept-sine example

Hello,

I'm using  Sound and Vibration labview module, 2018

There is an example : Continuous Frequency sweep (Daqmx).

I would like to make 2 measurements (sequential) with 2 different generators. I can't put this example in a loop. The first start is good, but the second shows an error:

L'erreur -50103 s'est produite à : SoundVib_Audio Examples.lvlib:sv_Timing and Synchronization for Stimulus Response Tasks.vi:560002

La ressource spécifiée est réservée. L'opération n'a pas pu se faire comme spécifiée.

The task is reserved...

Because it uses vi in library, I can't modify them. I think it is because it stops the task, but no erase it.

How can I do to ?

I'm using PXI 4496 for acquisition and PXI 4461 for generation, in a chassis 1042Q. Labview 2018.

Thank you very much for any help.

Best,

Christophe

How to Change Excitation current NI 9216

$

Hello,

the NI 9216 has a excitation curren of 1mA. I have to lower it to 0.3 mA to prevent self heating of a very small pt100. Is it possible to lower the current somehow? Maybe a series resistor and make an offset of the temperature measurement?  Or is the only solution to buy a current source like NI 9266?

thank you in advance!

Detect Analog Input threshold

$

Dear community,

I'm building a custom setup to read out a fluorescent signal.
I need to activate some hardware components at the exact moment the fluorescent signal crosses a certain threshold.
These other hardware components are all implemented in Python.

I bought the following components:

Photodiode (output 0-5V) --> NI 9215 (BNC) --> cDAQ-9171 --> USB --> Python

I'm currently using the nidaqmx Python package to read the input stream and plot it "live".

I am now looking for a way to detect the exact moment I'm passing a certain threshold.
- Would I implement this on the hardware side (eg trigger once treshold is passed)?
- Would I implement this on the Python side? (I guess I'm running into timing offsets, then..?)

What would be the most exact way of detecting the very moment a voltage is breached and continuously acquire/plot the signal?
Any help is appreciated, also implementations in Labview, I can then look into ways of transitioning this to Python.

Dear All,

I've a cDAQ-9137 Windows OS and I cannot access the video output to attach a monitor, and I'd need to set up a Remote Desktop connection to develop my application:

since I haven't found the default static IP, could you please let me know what's the factory default?

Even DHCP would be fine, but still the documentation is needed

Thank you very much!

USB-6009 Trigger Pin Hardware Configuration

$

Hello,

After reviewing the documenation on the USB-6009 I'm at a bit of a loss. How is the digital trigger (PFI0) configured internally? From doing some testing it seems as though it's configured the same as all of the other digital IO pins (as shown in Figure 15, page 22 of the user guide) because when left floating the pin reads +5VDC. This voltage then changes depending upon the load attached.

The reason I ask is because I'm setting up the hardware protection circuit (current limiting) and I'm directly connecting the trigger to another pin being used as a digital output. I'd like to make sure I'm setting it up correctly and that I won't damage the hardware.

Anyone with prior knowledge please weigh in. Thanks!
